This morning, I just was called by Joe with Common Ground and he, Patricia and Alice have been given the opportunity to obtain medical equipment from a hospital in Baton Rouge that has 3-4 semi’s full of stuff going to Nigeria. The hospital there is willing to give to this clinic and it includes exam beds, crutches, walkers, old scrubs, gauze, IV starts, etc, so there is no need to ship any additional exam beds from CA. He is not certain what all is available and will be figuring that out tomorrow. I am shipping 3 exam beds plus other items from Boise. As far as this equipment in California is concerned, any diabetic stuff would be great, as well, any and all medications, contents of exam room cabinets, a medical scale (the one in Boise was broken and not worth sending), GYN equipment, exam/procedure lamps, file folders, front desk stuff, etc. Kristina already has a centrifuge being donated, so that would not be needed would be my guess. I am using a person named Curt from Houston (Debbie’s contact) to figure out shipping and I will be paying a reduced amount to get it there. I don’t yet have that amount. Garry’s wife Dawn, has contacts in the shipping industry and I would give her a call ASAP to talk about the feasibility of shipping from CA. Shipping big stuff involves getting it on pallets and shrink wrapping it and then lifting with forklifts onto these semi trucks. Not the same as taking it down to UPS.
