Potential Health Risk in Lower 9th Ward?

The following excerpts were pulled from the LC3 email communications:

"I spoke with a friend who is a pulmonary specialist about mold and our exposure. He shared that those with existing sensitivities to mold are at risk for asthma attacks, but that active infections of mold in people’s lungs rarely occur except in people with significantly impaired immune systems (AIDs, chemotherapy, etc.). He did not feel that HAZMAT respirators were indicated and at most, that surgical masks would suffice to help minimize exposure and risk of becoming sensitive or allergic to mold. I think that the experience of the people working there is very important and to be aware, that sometimes only time can reveal risks of choices from years earlier (nuclear tests and late cancers from fallout). His bigger concern was mosquitos and water contamination. I agree that getting solid information is most appropriate and then responding and not reacting."
